Yokohama Rubber Co., Ltd. has unveiled plans to bolster its presence in the North American market by establishing a new passenger car tyre manufacturing facility in Mexico. The company intends to invest approximately US$380 million (¥52.1 billion) in this venture, with an annual production capacity of 5 million tyre. Construction of the state-of-the-art plant is slated to commence in the second quarter of 2024, targeting commencement of operations by the first quarter of 2027. Situated in the Mexican state of Coahuila, the plant’s strategic location offers access to key transportation routes, including a major railway line and expressway, ensuring efficient distribution throughout North America.
Recognizing the imperative of local production to meet escalating demand, Yokohama Rubber underscores its commitment to rapidly catering to the burgeoning tyre needs of the North American market. The sprawling facility, spanning approximately 610,000 square meters, is designed for future expansion, underscoring the company’s long-term vision and adaptability.
This initiative aligns seamlessly with Yokohama Rubber’s overarching consumer tyre strategy outlined in its new medium-term management plan, Yokohama Transformation 2026 (YX2026). Central to this strategy is the prioritization of high-value-added tyre segments, including the globally renowned ADVAN brand, the GEOLANDAR series catering to SUVs and pickup trucks, winter tyre, and larger-sized tyre of 18 inches and above. Furthermore, the company remains steadfast in its commitment to tailored “Product and Regional Strategies,” aimed at delivering tyre solutions that resonate with specific market trends and preferences across different regions.
